Endurance Blog: Snow, first competitions and a tidy boot!

  • Endurance Blog: Snow, first competitions and a tidy boot!

The season started this month, so training was well underway and we were all very excited! Sadly the first ride of the season got cancelled due to the weather, so our plans changed slightly.

The weather didn’t stop us riding though, we managed to get out a few times in the snow! It was very cold but everywhere was very soft for the horses! A huge snow drift in front of the yard gate prevented us from going out for a few days and they didn’t get to go in their field for a while, but they took turns to have a leg stretch in the yard.

Training in the snow

Our first ride of the season was 40km at Cannock Chase, with me on Oakley and my Mum on Tintin. They were both really chilled all day, Oakley’s starting pulse was 32! The going was really good in places but also quite muddy but both boys got round with plenty left in the tank. They achieved respectful grade 1’s at 11kph. This has reassured me that they are both ready for their next adventures, which for Oakley is at Wootton and Tintin at Haywood Oaks. Tintin and Oakley were both in their Griffin NuuMed SP14 Endurance Pads and were very comfy for their whole ride!

Packing all the tack and equipment was made much easier with my Griffin NuuMed kit bag, it has lots of different pockets of all sizes and can fit loads in! It also kept the car a lot tidier (which Mum was very happy about!) and everything was much easier to find.

A tidy boot!

Prince is currently in light work as my aim is to compete him in June, after my exams. He is full of energy to say the least! Prince wears his Griffin NuuMed Wool Head-collar Set as he has sensitive skin, so it’s perfect to stop bridle and head-collar rubs!
