Technical Blog: HiWither

  • Technical Blog: HiWither

One of the most common questions we receive here at Griffin NuuMed is “Why does my horse need a HiWither saddlepad when he does not have a high wither?”

The answer is simple, as much as our HiWither design can accommodate horses with very high withers its primary purpose is to allow your saddlepad or numnah to sit up into the gullet of your saddle, more closely following the shape of our horses back than a non-HiWither pad. This has a variety of benefits including removing the potential for pressure in front AND behind the saddle as shown it the pictures below. It also helps our pads not to slip and to maintain air flow.

HiWither Design

As part of the continued development and analysis of all our products in recent years we have refined the HiWither cut to include a cut back head on most of our products. This removes any excess fabric giving a neater appearance and the cut back head still ensures the NuuMed HiWither style accommodates all shapes, sizes and breeds of horses and ponies.

All NuuMed saddlepads, numnahs and half pads that use HiWither use our handy spine labels too so it's easy to get the product your horse needs!
